Texas Tomboys
It is exciting to be in a new area, where there are letterboxes to be found! Several years ago, Hurricanes Rita and Ike blew onto the Texas Coast and made their way inland causing damage that is still visible today. For letterboxing, this meant that trails were closed (whole parks in some areas) and landmarks and boxes were destroyed. Mother Nature was not nice. Memorial Park in Houston was especially hit hard, but boxes are starting to be replaced and the game is back on!
I began to print out clues near me here in Beaumont, knowing they may not be there anymore, but just had to try. TX Tomboy is a box dedicated to a special athlete who was way ahead of her time. Mildred Ella Didrikson Zaharias, affectionately known as "Babe" was quite a pioneer as an athlete. She excelled in Track and Field, Tennis and Golf. With clue in hand, I drove over to look for this box by Silver Eagle. Some of the landmarks are missing, but the box is still there. WooHoo!! I looked for two more boxes, but sadly they were missing. The trees and bushes mentioned in the clues are gone. The weather was great, and I have another image for my logbook. It's so nice to be able to get out there and box again!
